2018 Award Notice

ACTRA Ottawa is pleased to announce that Ottawa performer John Koensgen will receive the 2018 Lorraine Ansell ACTRA Award of Excellence. The award will be presented at an evening reception on October 27th at the Ottawa Art Gallery.

John’s career has spanned more than four decades in front of the camera and on stage in the Ottawa area and across Canada. He has also served on the board of ACTRA, Canadian Actors’ Equity Association, the board of the Great Canadian Theatre Company and on the City of Ottawa Arts Advisory Committee.

“John Koensgen has made an outstanding contribution to the Ottawa film, television and theatre community,” said ACTRA Ottawa President Paula MacPherson. “His work both in front of the camera and on stage as well as his dedication to the Arts community and his fellow performers is a glowing example to all of us in the industry.”

Over his career he’s worked on countless projects, from voice work and corporate work to major projects on film and TV. This year he appeared in 4 episodes of Frankie Drake (CBC) and the TV movie, The Truth About Christmas as well as directing the audiobook “Trust” by David Johnston, Canada’s previous Governor General. In the theatre he recently appeared in Butcher at The Panasonic Theatre in Toronto as part of The Off-Mirvish series.

The Lorraine Ansell ACTRA Award of Excellence is presented to a performer who has made a distinguished contribution to Ottawa’s film and television community in the tradition of former ACTRA Ottawa President, Lorraine Ansell. ACTRA Ottawa established this award to commemorate one of its most beloved members.
