  5. Will you commt to delivering resources, tools and initiatives to implement sustainable strategies and environmental protocols in Ontario’s film industry?

  2. Artists live and work in our communities. They support local businesses and help attract business.
  3. The provincial government plays an important role in supporting film, television and digital media.

Climate Change

Essential Questions for Candidates on Climate Change

  1. If Canada is to meet its 45% greenhouse gas reduction by 2030 under the Paris Climate agreement, Ontario must commit to its fair share of the work. Will your party take the actions required to achieve this reduction?
  2. Does your party understand the urgency needed to take effective provincial action on reducing greenhouse gases? What binding commitments will they take to prove this?
  3. Will your party resist the oil and gas lobby and champion legislation to end fossil fuel subsidies and all new fossil fuel development permits?

Key Messages

  1. The pledge is a 45% GHG reduction by 2030. According to the latest assessment from the federal government, there is still a gap of 79 million tonnes of GHGs between our 2030 Paris Accord emissions target and the levels Canada is on track to achieve.
  2. Under the the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, Canada has 20 internationally prescribed “Aichi ” targets for protecting species, lands and oceans, reducing water pollution, improving forest management, and other crucial actions. While Canada achieved significant success on the goal of protecting 10 per cent of our coastal and marine areas by 2020, it is struggling to meet the other targets.
  3. At a time when we urgently need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Ontario is planning to increase them by using a lot more polluting fossil gas to generate electricity. Take action and tell Ontario to phase out – not ramp up – polluting fossil gas power.

Ontario Election Voting Information

Five Things About Voting

  1. Not sure who the candidates are or where to vote? Elections Ontario has got you covered!
  2. Click here to find out where you vote and go to Voter Information Service from May 9 to find a list of candidates in your electoral district. (Note: The deadline for candidate nominations is May 17 at 2p.)
  3. Working on Election Day and won’t get to vote? No problem. Vote in an Advance Poll or by Special Ballot.
  4. Advance voting will be available from May 26 to May 30, from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm at Area Advance Voting Locations in your electoral district, and from May 26 to June 1, from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm at your electoral district Returning Office. On Election Day, polls will be open from 9a to 9p (ET).
  5. Can you still vote even if you didn’t get a voter information card from Elections Ontario? You bet, as long as you’re 18 years of age or older; a Canadian citizen; and a resident of Ontario! Remember to bring ID with you on Election Day.
